Press Release

Jason Jacques Gallery is pleased to invite you to the thirtieth edition of The European Fine Art Fair (TEFAF) in Maastricht, Netherlands. This international event brings together leading galleries from twenty countries, specializing in areas as varied as Old Master Painting, antiques, design, contemporary art, and works on paper.

Our booth will feature a combination of important late 19th and early 20th century ceramics, metalwork pieces, and contemporary ceramic sculptures.

The exhibition will revolve around three masterpieces of Japonisme, made in the late 19th century by French jewelry company Boucheron, based on designs by Paul Legrand. The smoking set, absinthe set, and inkstand are colorful, enameled pieces featuring incised carvings and superb details, which attest to the influence of East Asian visual culture on the European decorative arts of the period.

Iron, copper, and metal repoussé boxes by Alfred Daguet (1875-1942) will also be presented. Featuring highly decorative motifs inspired by marine life and medieval iconography, these small-scale works occasionally include glass cabochons and appliqué designs that give them a jewelry-like quality.

Alfred Daguet is best known for his repoussé boxes executed for La Maison de l'Art Nouveau in Paris in the early 20th century. Featuring highly decorative motifs inspired by marine life and medieval iconography, these works occasionally include glass cabochons and appliqué designs that give them a jewelry-like quality.

In addition to historic pieces, our exhibition will include works by contemporary ceramists such as Gareth Maso, Kim Simonsson, and Beth Cavener. Recent porcelain sculptures by Katsuyo Aoki will comprise most of the contemporary section of the show. The delicate, swirling forms of her off-white porcelain creations, which take the shape of highly aestheticized skulls and dismembered animal parts, contrast with their dark subject matters.

The ensemble of objects that we will be exhibiting at TEFAF this year, which vary in mediums, time, and place of origin, reflects Jason Jacques Gallery’s commitment to presenting exciting and exceptional works of art and design from the 19th to the 21st century.

The art fair will take place between March 10 and March 19, 2017, at the Maastricht Exhibition & Congress Centre (MECC), with a preview on Thursday, March 9, from 12PM to 9PM.

Jason Jacques Gallery’s stand will be located at booth number 604.
