The earthenware Alchemist Powder Box is a striking example of the height of the Art Nouveau ceramic style. The box’s glaze is incredibly saturated, bright reds and neon purples blending into shades of teal and darker blue; the most striking areas of glaze are rendered in an iridescent gold. Under every area of color lie abstracted patterns and motifs, vegetal in their inspiration and highly decorative. This exuberant box consists of a rounded body with small jutting handles, and a lid with three straights handles forming a triangle.

Marks: Painted glaze Clement-Massier, Golfe-Juan, AM; stamped Clement Massier, Golfe Juan, AM, L Levy
