Much like the architectural supports of a Gothic cathedral, the buttress-handles of this small but powerful vase convey strength while forming a delicate pattern of slender ribs. With purposefully imprecise shaping and modeling, its body recalls the Japanese preference for natural irregularities. The intense heat of the kiln's burning embers seems to radiate from its ruddy glaze.
