Beate Kuhn's "Small Plant", a glazed stoneware produced one year prior to the artist's death, is a reference to motifs that have permeated throughout Kuhn's career as a ceramist. Taking inspiration from nature and flora, Beate Kuhn is best remembered for her imaginative sculptures of animals and plants with abstract twists. In "Small Plant", she used the recognizable shapes of a pot and a plant as basic silhouettes that she turned into abstraction. Varying shades of pink and orange add to the enigmatic quality of the piece.
