Taking the shape of a vertical, two dimensional circle that rests upon a cylindrical base, Crumbiegel’s Sculptural Vase is an odd take on a traditional item. In the very center of the piece is cutout circle, concentric with the outer edge of the work. Geometric shapes emerge from the surface of the vase, having been highlighted in a bright orange red against an almost menacing background of black. The piece’s irregular surface and outer edge further contribute to a feeling of spontaneity and irregularity.
