Exquisite in form and décor, this pair of covered vases presents the highest degree of Viennese sophistication. Distantly related to the Chinese Mei-ping form, each one rises in eight swelling gores from a delicate foot to an equally delicate finial. Gores alternate in color and profile, resulting in a symmetrical lobed shape. Solid blue sections, jewel-like in their depth and intensity, are set in diminutive bead courses of gold dots or lines. The floral pattern is quintessentially Viennese in its blending of folkloric colors with dynamic drawing. Similar patterns appeared on Wiener Werkstätte textiles and wallpapers.

Marks: Stamped transfer mark under glaze, Serapis-Fayence Wahliss; impressed model number 9686; hand painted glaze form and decoration numbers F: 9686, D: 9712.
