As for many other ceramic creations produced by Pierre Pacton in the beginning of the 20th century, this pitcher incorporates a figurative element in the shape of a highly realistic frog-like creature, whose mouth forms the rim of the object. Made of stoneware, the piece includes various layers of brown and grayish glazes, in addition to subtle touches of gold visible on the body of the creature. Along with Émile Grittel, Théo Perrot, and other members of the Carriès School, Pacton shared an interest in incorporating reptiles and bizarre animals to his stoneware creations, a practice that reveals his interest in East Asian visual culture and his attraction to the Symbolist movement.
