Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy

The title of this work refers, verbatim, to the medical term for mad cow disease, an infectious and fatal disease believed to be due to a misfolded protein, known as a prion, wreaking havoc on the central nervous system— there appears to be a conceptual relationship between the cerebral shape of the rorschach-esque blob at the center of the panel, and the reference to the disease.
