Zsolnay Art Pottery: The Gyugyi Collection

Although many volumes have already been devoted to the art pottery of the Zsolnay factory of Pécs, Hungary, this one adds a new dimension: it springs from the passion of a single collector, Dr. Lászlo Gyugyi, a Hungarian-born research engineer residing in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. In 1974 in Pittsburgh, Gyugyi began collecting Zsolnay pottery, researching the history of the company and refining his taste over time. In the pursuit of treasures, he undertook global 'search tours' which he documents in his lively introduction. His co-authors, leading experts on Zsolnay art pottery, bring all of their expertise to bear on Gyugyi's collection which, for the purpose of the book, has been organized in chronological order.

Enthusiasts will especially appreciate that each object pictured in the book is pictured again in an index that includes detailed archival information such as form and décor numbers and years. An appendix on trademarks shows the marks in color on actual examples, a format that is much more useful than the black and white drawings or photographs generally used to represent marks.
