Thorolf Holmboe

A painter and decorative artist born 1866 in Vefsen, Norway, Thorolf Holmboe studied in Berlin, Oslo, and Paris. He was a Norwegian Commissioner to the Paris Exposition Universelle in 1900 and in 1917 became the director of the Art Museum in Oslo. Although he painted a great variety of subjects, Holmboe is best known for his landscapes of northern Norway. He worked on decorative arts between 1890 and 1915, creating designs for textiles, ceramics, and other Art Nouveau era objects.
