Montieres

Jean Barol, a glaze artist who had learned metallic luster glazing at Golfe-Juan and subsequently helped establish BACS in Cannes, left Cannes with colleague François Sicard to found Montieres (named for its location) in 1917. The company produced luster-glazed work in the early years and moved on to create highly stylized Art Deco ornaments, sometimes on the same shapes that had been designed for lusterware. Barol left the company in 1920 and from then until 1933, Montieres concentrated on painted decors based on a wide rage of art influences, from ancient Greece and the Far East to modern dance and Cubism.
