KPM

KPM, located in Berlin, is formally known as the Königliche Porzellan-Manufaktur (Royal Porcelain Manufactory). In 1753 Frederick II permitted Wilhelm Caspar Wegely to open a porcelain manufacturing business. The Wegely factory was not yet complete when production began under the trademark "W." Ten years later, Frederick II bought the company, giving it its name and emblem: the royal sceptre. From then on, the company bore the its royal name. In 1908, Theodor Schmuz-Baudiss became artistic director. KPM's porcelain helped to set the trend for Jugendstil porcelain design.
