Franz Metzner

Franz Metzner was an influential German sculptor who learned the craft of stone-cutting in Breslau with Christian Behrens. In 1896, after serving several apprenticeships, he founded his own studio in Berlin and worked predominantly for KPM until 1903. Among his important work are the sculptures for Josef Hoffmann's 1904-1911 landmark Palais Stoclet in Brussels, including the four male nudes at the summit of the building.
