Painter and ceramic modeler Ernest Carriere, brother of painter Eugene Carriere, worked in Theodore Deck's studio from 1890. He was noted for painted or relief decoration depicting animals. Because of his use of strong outlines, his work sometimes resembles cloisionne enamels. Carriere was also an accomplished painter, sculptor, and member of the Societe des Artistes Francais from 1888. Shortly before his death, he became the artistic director at Sèvres.
