Denbac

Denbac founder René Denert began producing ceramics in his own workshop in 1908 and licensed his firm in 1909. Running the business with his wife, he produced pieces under his own name. R.L. Balichon joined Denert in 1921. Their joint atelier, known as Denbac, handcrafted high-fired stoneware with distinctive micro-crystalline glazes that have a velvety feel, and a subtle range and gradation of color. Denbac wares were sold in Paris and exported to England and Switzerland. The factory ceased production during World War II (1939 - 1945), then reopened for a few years before permanently closing. A scene in the Denbac studio is shown above.
