Christian Johannes van der Hoef
Christian Johannes van der Hoef, who trained as a sculptor, designed ceramics for various factories and served as the director of the Amstelhoek pottery atelier near Amsterdam. Under the influence of English Arts and Crafts principles concerning the merger of the useful and the beautiful, the studio produced functional earthenware with red or green glazes. Van der Hoef's distinctive designs featured two-color inlaid decoration based on Dutch folk traditions but combined with the flowing lines favored during the Art Nouveau era.
