The clustered apertures on this vase were meant to hold multiple groups of flowers, hence the vessel's generic name, "bouquetière" (bouquet holder). The sinuous lines of the form have a Neo-Rococo feeling, but the overall shape remains balanced and symmetrical. Swaying wisteria branches in the painted décor provide visual counterpoint to the body's structural stability. Lachenal supplied the design for this model to Keller et Guérin, a faience manufacturer based in Lunéville, which manufactured it around 1895 with an accompanying jardinière. The example above bears only Lachenal's mark and features his distinctive velvet opaque glaze, evidence that he retained control over the original design. Marks: painted Lachenal
