Aptly named Weapon, the shape of Dieter Crumbiegel’s vase does indeed call to mind images of force, the work’s cylindrical body appearing as if it has had deep, angular gouges taken from its base and rim. The widely curving top of the vase culminates in two peaks, between which lies a smooth valley containing the piece’s mouth. The bottom of the vase is similarly formed, though it contains a larger circular foot rather than an inset mouth. The palette of the piece is muted, an irregular band of tan lying atop a background of burgundy.
