This splendid, uncluttered piece was produced around 1930, a year that marks a peak in Decoeur's career as a ceramist. The types of pieces that he produced around that time often reflect the influence of Far-Eastern ceramics from the Sung and Yuan dynasties. What Decoeur had in common with the Chinese potters was an absolute vision of pottery as an art of combining form and texture in the subtlest, most harmonious and perfect way possible - hence his predilection for high-temperature firing, and the production of vases with broader flanks, narrower bases, and wider mouths.
