Tall and graceful, this hard paste porcelain vase is boldly ornamented with a sunny yellow underglaze and a creamy white overglaze dripping from the neck down. Small quadrilobed flowers are applied at regular intervals to suggest a shoulder, while a slightly raised ring above incised line sets the body off from the foot. This form was part of a series named for notable French cites. Bougival is a suburb of Paris. In the late nineteenth century it was considered the birthplace of Impressionism. Marks: manufacturer's mark, 1900.
