Description

With a catalogue of work that is almost exclusively ornamented with whirling circles and surging plant forms, this is an extremely rare example of a rectilinear design by Thorvald Bindesbøll. The decoration of the traditional baluster form simultaneously harkens back to the ziggurats and towers of the ancient world and prefigures the skyscrapers of the twentieth century. The color scheme of frosty white and blue accented by an earthy brown easily could have been inspired by the Denmark's winter landscape. Marks: incised B, 1901 inside the rim.
