This relatively small sculpture of a girl with a rope remains a good example of Bernhard Hoetger’s work in bronze by the beginning of his career as an artist. He gives elegance to the female figure through an elongated pose, a lifted right arm and a back formed into an arch. The realistic depiction of the body combined with occasional exaggerations in terms of proportion remind the viewer of the work of famous sculptor Auguste Rodin. The polished finish of the sculpture adds finesse to the work. A sense of coherence and harmony to the overall silhouette is further achieved by unifying the girl’s feet with the circular base.
