This fantastic metal charger features a skillfully rendered fish, wonderfully expressive, with an upturned jaw, revealing sharp, long teeth. His fan-like dorsal fin is splayed in a defensive manner as he swims along, about to devour a mouthful of sinuous seaweed. His wildly gazing eye is enlivened with painted decoration, which is carried through to the roundels encircling the edge of the charger. A superb example of Alfred Daguet's distinctive work, which he fabricated in the studio above Sigfried Bing's Maison de l'Art Nouveau in Paris.
Marks: Engraved artist's monogram AD.
