Description

Ancient Asian influence is apparent here, both in the sang de boeuf glaze and the form, which in its first incarnation was most likely a utilitarian basket with a bent-wood handle made to be carried on a pole. By the turn of the twentieth century the shape was revered for its exotic associations and was employed for strictly artistic purposes.
