This robust stoneware cachepot is an excellent example of Albert Dammouse's interest in Japanese design principles. The subtle frieze of conventionalized daffodils around the neck consists of flattened and outlined petals and leaves. A rich oxblood flambe glaze has been applied thickly at the shoulder and allowed to drip halfway down the body, demonstrating the artist's love of spontaneous effects. Dammouse placed as much importance upon the textural effects of his glazes as he did upon his nature-based motifs.
