This virile form is an elaboration of the double gourd, with the clay of the upper section pulled down in three places to meet the shoulder of the lower section. the streaks and speckles of black and blue on the flambé glaze result from the high temperatures in the kiln. Overall, the piece shows the influence of Japanese aesthetics but, in its monumentality, it is undeniably French. the level of abstraction in its form puts it decades ahead of its time. Marks: Dalpayrat in glaze on base.
