Description

A black crow with stylized red markings perched menacingly on a horse chestnut branch is the central ornament of this wall charger. The choice of a common bird in an inelegant posture and the use of bold black outlines links this composition to the Japanese woodblock prints that were fashionable in Europe at the end of the nineteenth century. Marks: painted Rozenburg, Den Haag, Manufacturer's cipher, 953.
