Description

This powerful vase, with its impasto application of slip used to depict lemon trees against a deep blue background, represents Max Laeuger's Impressionist-influenced style. It also bears the inscription Paris Exposition 1900, reminding us of a historic event that more than any before or since signaled the acceptance of a new approach to the decorative arts. The piece is marked Maison Moderne on the base, indicating that it was a special edition made to be sold in the Maison Moderne section of the Exposition.
