The Mushroom work by Ingeborg and Bruno Asshoff, named as such for its fungal-like qualities, consists of a series of flat circles layered upon one another and glazed in blue-tinged cream, which have been capped with a bulbous half-sphere set at a skewed angle. The color palette of this cap is what renders the piece a true organic representation; mottled cream and light brown are layered over a gradated background of mauve, burgundy, and dark brown. Though the work appears to be purely sculptural, the small opening at its top renders it a functional vase.
