This elegantly shaped iridescent vase, with an attenuated double gourd form, evokes the image of an oriental waterpipe. The associated theme of mind-expansion was highly topical in the Symbolist movement. The imagery of a lily draped over the body of the vase on a backdrop of tiny bubbles gushing from the base up, reinforces the notion of dreamy sensuality, as the suggestion of the flower's intense, intoxicating scent seems to shift into being a real-time experience, captivating the mind and the senses.
Marks: Painted glaze ASB.
