This gem-like masterpiece, with its abstract glaze and decoration, shows the influence of master ceramist Taxile Doat with whom Robineau had worked at University City Pottery in Missouri, circa 1910. In this example, the bright blue, oxblood, and ochre glazes that pool and flow around the neck and carved buttresses, give way to transparent glossy drips that merge at the base. Natural crackles and fissures are exploited as ornamental elements of the primary glaze. Several firings may have been required to achieve this effect.
