This stylistically anomalous vase proves that Lachenal occasionally made pottery long after his prolific career had supposedly ended. Dedicated to Lachenal's physician, the one-of-a-kind vessel shows that the ceramist was attempting to adapt to the prevailing geometric trend of the 1920s. The wording of dedication attests to an unimpaired septuagenarian sense of humor ("To my aged doctor A de [?] his young friend E. Lachenal January 1927"). Marks: Lachenal [painted]; a mon vieux Dteur A de [?] son jeune ami E. Lachenal janvier 1927 [painted script]
