Description

The simple baluster form of this vase is enlivened by abstract organic handles. The streaking surface décor approximates the Chinese glaze known as hare's fur, first developed during the Song Dynasty. Although Decoeur apprenticed with Edmond Lachenal beginning in 1890, it was only in 1901 that his monogram began to appear beneath his employer's mark. By this time, Decoeur was designing and executing the pieces he signed, but was prevented from claiming full authorship of them by Lachenal, who would naturally have wanted his mark to figure prominently over that of his talented apprentice. Marks: Lachenal ; ED monogram [painted]
