A ceramic symbolist sculpture designed by Agnes de Frumerie and excecuted by Edmond Lachenal, this object depicts a robed woman standing in a grotto, with stylized leaves forming a chapel. The soft velvet matte glaze shades from pale turquoise at the base to cobalt blue at the top. Although not overtly religious, the female figure resembles countless Madonna shrines and evokes a spiritual quality associated with Symbolist art. Marks: painted E. Lachenal, ceramiste
