Description

Aptly ornamented with three Green Man mascarons and an earthy flambé glaze, this robust cachepot is a fine merger of form and function. The dominant motifs, faces emerging from leaves, have been widely employed throughout history as symbols of vitality and rebirth. The superb glaze, in shades of brown, grey, olive green, with vibrant splashes of red, suggests the rich soil that supports plant growth. It is an interesting example of Chaplet's early use of the Asian glaze he researched and perfected in the mid-1880s.
