This colorful, lid-covered vase produced by Italian master Galileo Chini is a direct reference to the well-known Italian "albarelli" tradition in ceramic production, which grew out of commercial exchanges between Europe and the Middle East. Incorporating colorful Islamic motifs with European shape and colors, this vase constitutes a contemporary interpretation of a cross-cultural style that emerged in the 15th century. Galileo Chini's interest in the history of the decorative arts could possibly explain his interest in such a tradition.
