An important tall vase of high-shouldered baluster shape with a short cylindrical neck, this simple form is decorated with a superb flambe copper red glaze with blue mottling. Dalpayrat's meteoric rise to fame occurred in late 1892, when he unveiled his first flambe glazes. The flashy surfaces of his vases appealed to a society immersed in the aesthetics and mysteries of Symbolism. The statuesque form demonstrates Dalpayrat's interest in classical Far Eastern prototypes, especially those from Japan.
