This graceful, bottle-shaped vase is part of Arabia's "Fennia" range, which was produced by Arabia from 1902 until the 1920s. A graceful frieze of arcs surrounds the neck and establishes the unusual color scheme of pale green, ochre, and navy blue against opaque white. Chevrons filled with lattice work and a course of eight-pointed stars carry out the color scheme without seeming redundant. The white negative space is an important element of this design, demonstrating restraint on the part of the designer who, as a modernist, deliberately avoided over-embellishment.
