Description

Clément Massier generally used the charger format for landscapes. In this rare example, some see an undefined space filled with conventionalized five pointed stars. Others see the expanding universe, the night sky, or an explosion of celebratory pyrotechnics. Born into a family of ceramists, Massier took an interest in the business from an early age. Following the arrival at his studio of art director Lucien Lévy-Dhurmer in 1887, Massier introduced fiery luster glazes enriched with etching and painting, applying them to both unique and production forms. Marks: Painted artists' names, Golfe Juan AM.
