Rendered roughly in bronze, Rene Lalique’s Frozen Moment sculpture depicts two women emerging from the center of a circle of metal. Locked in a frozen embrace, the two women each grasp the arm of the other, their bodies engaged closely and intimately. Despite this intimacy, however, they both crane their necks to look back and away from one another, denying the possibility of any eye contact between them. Though rendered somewhat crudely, the hands appearing almost primitively wrought, the piece is incredibly expressive even in its coarseness.
