Description

This stoneware teapot has a spherical body decorated with dynamic sculptural ribs, an inventive crescent-shaped handle, a saucy spout, and a particularly rich example of Dalpayrat’s signature glaze. Relief elements have caused the glaze to accumulate in some areas and shed in others, resulting in streams of tiny turquoise dots. Another example of this model was shown at the Exposition Universelle in 1900. One is in the collection of the Paris Musée des Arts Decoratifs. In 1994 this teapot was pictured on a French postage stamp, one of a series of four dedicated to Art Nouveau masterpieces. Marks: painted artist's name
