Alfred Daguet’s metalwork often incorporated animalistic figures and drew inspiration from the natural world. Incorporating a medieval aesthetic into his creations, he specialized in copper panels made for application to a variety of furniture and domestic objects. This piece, a circular, carved metal panel, features prominently at its center an eagle resting upon a tree branch. The quality of the carving remains especially impressive. The beautiful red cabochons placed on the outside rim are surrounded by a series of dots and wavy abstract patterns, encircling the eagle.
