This figurative vessel is produced in the art nouveau typology favored by Grittel’s long-time collaborator and employer, Georges Hoentschel. It is unique because, though it rests on a flattened side, occupying space the way a real gourd might, it maintains a flat base where it might stand upright. Mimicking the figure of the gourd itself, the double-handle of this vessel is at once the vine from which the gourd sprouted.
