Description

This covered dish is in the form of a whimsical fish with prominent eyes, wavy markings, and a beguiling smile. The icy blue color is perfectly attuned to the icy northern waters familiar to Bing & Grøndahl's glaze artists. In Denmark the use of fish as a theme for decoration could be seen as an expression of nationalism. The country, which includes more than 400 islands, is located where the North Atlantic meets the Baltic Sea. Its waters are home to cod, mackerel, haddock, baby sharks, trout, and a wide variety of other marine life. Marks: stamped manufacturer's mark; B.G.; 4/1000
