T.A.C. Colenbrander for Ram Arnhem Holland. This enchanted vase lidded vase pair, the lid suggests the spire of a Netherlandish Gothic Cathedral as well Indonesian pagoda. But is Colenbrander's enigmatic abstract designs seemingly avoid links with precedent or tradition, his exuberant colors and patterns reflect the influence of Islamic art, specifically stylized plants in decoration on batik textiles from Java, Indonesia. The vine like designs which decorate the archivolts of this cathedral form vase. His unusual palette may also reflect contemporaneous experiments by avant-garde Expressionist artists who used color to suggest emotions and moods. Below these beautiful abstract designs you see worshippers walking among the pillars at the base of the cathedral form vase seemingly worshipping in ecstasy from the vibrant palate.
Marks: 21 "RAM ARNHEM HOLLAND PAIR KATHEDRAL" and signed.
