In his Crab Sculpture, André Metthey has created an affectionate depiction of a large crustacean. Its legs folded serenely beneath its body, the crab holds some sort of object in its two front claws – perhaps a shell, or some other article of oceanic origin. The two small, beady eyes inset into the edge of the flat body gaze out at the viewer. The entire body of the crab has been glazed in an organic shade of dark brown that has been mottled in areas with an algae-like green.
