This lidded hard-paste porcelain container with a relief decor of unfurling ferns is a charming example of the more sober brand of Art Nouveau that took root in the Scandinavian countries. The ferns contrast in texture and color with a smooth, opaque white ground, but are united with it both by means of high-gloss transparent glaze and air-brushing. The domed lid features three coiled ferns. This model was exhibited at the Paris Exposition Universelle, 1900. Marks: manufacturer's stamp, painted 314/193
