Description

A relatively simple trumpet-form vase has been given a mid-body twist while the clay was malleable but firm enough to retain its shape. The contours of the twist promoted a diagonal flow of silver and blue eosin glazes that have mixed spontaneously to create abstract water or cloud formations. In 1893 Zsolnay's ceramic chemist, Vinsce Wartha, developed a rich red iridescent glaze, marketed as Eosine. The term, named after the Greek goddess Eos, goddess of dawn, was soon to be used to denote all of the firm's iridescent finishes. Marks: raised Five Steeple Pecs, stamped 5998, M
