The fanciful images of scimitars and tassels etched into the glaze of this tapered cylinder remind observers that artist Lucien Lévy-Dhurmer was born in Algiers, a city on the Barbary Coast and a onetime haunt of Barbary Pirates. The background of golden luster with blue-green highlights, brings to mind sunken treasure.
