This inventive ceramic centerpiece takes the form of a six-petaled floral bowl supported by a tripod of cut bamboo stalks that have been lashed together with rope. The bowl is ornamented with delicate low-relief bamboo twigs and leaves. The work is unified with an iridescent glaze that ranges from golden ochre to ruby, gold, and cobalt. Although this vessel may evoke thoughts of real or imagined Asian rituals, actual bamboo tripods, used as plant stands as early as the 1820s, may have been the immediate inspiration.
